On June 2, 1968 the congregations of St. John’s United Church of Christ and Cherokee Heights Presbyterian Church merged to form one congregation known as Cherokee Park United Church. The congregation celebrated this golden anniversary on Sunday, June 3.
Today members of Cherokee Park United Church are considered members of both the United Church of Christ and the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).Cherokee Park United Church worships in the former Cherokee Heights Presbyterian building. The congregation continues the long-standing commitment of both predecessor churches in service to the West Side community and to the wider world. Cherokee Park United also has a history of sharing its space with other congregations as well as community groups.
The congregation’s celebration included worship and a delicious dinner provided by the Property Management Ministry Team. Two members received their 25 year membership pins. Cherokee Park United is grateful for the many blessings it has experienced the last 50 years. It has been the spiritual home of many and the site of countless community connections. The church looks forward to more years of sharing God’s love in our neighborhood and beyond.
