Children & Family

Everyone needs to know that they are loved by God, and to feel and grow that love to share it in the world.  Our church includes families with a mom and dad, one mom, two moms, one dad, two dads, as well as folks of any age who are married, single or who have a family or a partner who doesn’t attend.  In our worship, programs, and our relationships we try to boldly live God’s love in authentic, connected ways.  We are used to people of all ages participating – and making joyful noises! –  in our community.

A staffed nursery is available for children age 3 months through kindergarten.  Families often bring their little ones to the sanctuary for the beginning of the service.  After the “Time for Children” during worship, young ones often go to the nursery.  A  lesson and craft are provided for those 3 years and older by our nursery teacher.  For those with young children who remain with their families, the Parent’s Room off the back of the sanctuary is available as a quiet place where the service can be monitored on a speaker.

School age children are welcome to enjoy the worship service.  Singable music lead by a cantor, rhythm instruments available for playing, and dancing to Gathering Music with others offer experiences that engage the senses and imagination along with a child’s intellect.  Age- appropriate worship bags filled with soft toys and activities are available in the back of the sanctuary at any time.  Several Sundays each month, a lesson and activity time are provided by church volunteers after the “Time with Children.” When children are ready to take communion, they and their families are welcome to meet with the pastor to discuss the meaning of the sacrament in an age-appropriate way.

Upcoming Events

Cherokee Park United offers hybrid worship.  You are welcome to view the live-stream service or contact the church for details to attend in-person on Sundays at 10:15 am.  Our summer schedule runs from the second Sunday in June to Labor day.  During that that time service is at 9:30 and Adult Forum does not meet.  May we pray and act to spread God’s love in hearts, homes, and between people and nations.
