We accept God’s call to be stewards of creation. In 2012, CPUC dedicated the largest solar panel installation on any church at that time in Minnesota. Our investment of time, money and sweat into this effort means that we actually produce clean energy for the grid rather than drawing energy from fossil fuel burning. The solar panels on our roof produce enough electricity on a sunny day to provide for our own electric needs plus excess kWh to sell back to Xcel. Starting on January 2017 we owned the panels and any excess kWh generated are now credited to us.
This snapshot shows our generated electricity (green) and our usage (red). From mid-2017 to mid-2018 we generated 22.6 MWh, used 5.66 MWh, and were paid $2,200 for the excess. You can click on the picture for an enlargement.
Check this website for a live picture of the energy being used and generated and a handy computation of the income for we are being credited. (10/31/2018 – This link has been a little flaky lately; we are working to stabilize it.)
